Clint Kimmins Scores Perfect 10 And Wins The 2011 CHIKO Alley Classic
Gold Coast, Queensland — Clint Kimmins (Snapper Rocks, Qld) today posted a perfect 10-point-ride on his way to winning the 15th Annual Chiko Alley Classic is perfect 2m conditions at the famed Currumbin Alley. In an event which is being described by many as arguably the best Alley Classic and Queensland Championship Circuit competition in terms of wave-quality, Kimmins posted the event’s only perfect 10-point-ride in his semi-final before going on to outclass his rivals in the day’s ultimate showdown.
Scoring a combined two-wave heat total of 16.16 (out of a possible 20) in the final, Kimmins outpointed rivals Matt Jones (Yamba, NSW – 12.74), Corey Ziems (Currumbin, Qld – 10.00) and Chris Bennetts (Main Beach, Qld – 9.17) who finished second to fourth respectively.
“After I had a bit of shocker at the MP Classic, to come back and win today when we’ve had an epic weekend of waves, I’m absolutely stoked,” Kimmins said. “I’ve got to give a big wrap to all the judges as well, they were scoring some of the highest standard of surfing I’ve been involved in for a while and they didn’t miss a beat across a challenging weekend,” he said.
“To bounce back into contention for one of the spots in next year’s Quiksilver Pro Trials is what dreams are made of and being a Snapper Boardrider and having an opportunity to compete against the world’s best surfers at my home break would be amazing,” he said. The famed Currumbin Alley delivered epic 1.5-2m waves for the second stop of Australia’s premier state-based surfing series – The AUD$32,000 Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC).
A notable mention to local Brendan Leckie (Currumbin, Qld) who reached the quarter-finals and secured himself the prestigious Brett Hodge Cup for the best placed Alley Boardriders club member. The QCC series will now move to Burleigh Heads in two weeks time (May 14-15) for the third stop of the four-event 2011 Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit.
Based on competitors’ best three-of-four results, the series’ top two athletes will also get the chance to compete against the world’s best surfers at the 2012 ASP World Tour Quiksilver Pro Trials.
After posting his perfect 10-point-ride, event champion Clint Kimmins was unchallenged for the highly sought after XXXX Summer Bright Lager ‘Wave of the Weekend,’ walking away with four cartons of XXXX Summer Bright Lager awarded for the event’s highest single wave score (out of a possible 10 points) across the two-day competition.
The Chiko MP Classic is proudly supported by Chiko, XXXX Summer Bright Lager, Red Bull, Australia’s Surfing Life, Five and half Sunglasses, the Alley Boardriders and Surfing Queensland.
